After a few minutes, a manager arrived and asked the woman to leave the store.
A spokesperson for the retail chain said that they were still working to identify the woman who accosted Eva Hicks and called another shopper a ‘n*****’. Hicks, a Mexican American who has been living in the US for more than 30 years, said she politely asked the white woman to step aside so she could grab her medicine in the pharmacy aisle.
But the white woman did not take to her request kindly.
Instead she told her to ‘go back to Mexico’ before adding, “It’s not your country…we don’t want you here.”
Walmart issued a statement stating that it had ‘no tolerance for the language and actions of this customer’, adding that they were proud the Centerton store’s assistant manager who stepped in and asked her to leave. Eva then started filming the woman with her mobile phone.
She shared the shocking footage on her Facebook account and wrote, “I never in my life thought this would happen to me.”
She continued, “Yes me. Just on a simple trip to the grocery store after a hard day of work. I love this country and I will stay in this country. Friends please share.” In the three-minute clip, she can be heard saying, “Listen, I said excuse me, don’t be rude.” But the woman responded, “Go back, wherever you’re from. You’re the one that’s rude. You’re in America, you are in America.”
