Lavinia Woodward, The Oxford Student Who Stabbed Her Boyfriend, Might Be Off The Hook For Being “Extraordinary”!

Recently, a case caught everybody’s attention where an extraordinary student from Oxford University was caught up in a rather unexpected situation. The case has raised many questions about the justice system, an institution in which ‘ideally’ grey areas are not supposed to exist. The place where there are cut and dry rules that are followed regardless of extenuating circumstances or other factors that might influence a decision elsewhere in life. Unfortunately, mostly because of our human nature, circumstances can conspire against even for the most benign of us, and the justice system is no stranger to such a notion.

In a perfect world, the good guys walk free, the bad guys get punished and everyone continues with their lives. But sadly, we don’t live in a perfect world, and so every now and then, the reverse of what we consider just and true occurs. That’s exactly what happened in Lavinia Woodward’s case. Although it is far from being clear-cut, it certainly cannot be viewed in irrational terms of good and bad.

The much talked about instance revolves around Lavinia Woodward, a 24-year-old woman, who was studying at Christ Church College, Oxford.

Everything was perfect until last year when she stabbed her boyfriend in the midst of a blazing rage. That happened after a night of partying and heavy drinking. The argument escalated when Woodward allegedly punched her boyfriend, before stabbing him with a bread knife and flinging a laptop, glass and a jam jar at him.
