Nikki Toman from Newcastle who has an armful of real tattoos, let her daughter Tiana get a tattoo.
The 30-year-old mum got her 5-year-old a full spray-on ‘sleeve’ design complete with flowers and fairies, because her daughter was desperate to copy her look. Tiana said, “My mum’s looks really pretty and I want a real one but not with a needle.”
Another Mum, Vicky McAdam from Gateshead, made headlines when it emerged that she’d started offering the service to children.
She creates design that are so realistic they’ve made actual tattoo artists do a double take. While it’s drawn criticism from some corners, other parents see it as harmless fun, including the two mothers who appeared on This Morning to defend their decision to allow their children to be ‘inked’.
Of Tiana’s temporary design, Nikki said, “It is what it is. She can’t get one [a real tattoo] before she’s old enough to have one. So it doesn’t bother us.”
She further continued, “There’s no harm in it and they’re not permanent.” Fellow tattoo fan Joanne Marie Bishop, who let her son Bobby get a tiger design, believes that the fun he has had in changing his patterns will put him off committing to anything more permanent in future.
